今動画撮影のメインに使っているCanon Eos X7iというカメラがある
ニューヨークに住んでいた時に中古で買ったものだ。もう古い機種になるが、アマチュアの私にとっては十分すぎるもので、写真だけではなく動画も奇麗に撮れる

スマホやgoproに比べると大きなカメラなので、今まであまり活用できていなかったが出来上がってくる作品はやはり比べ物にならないので、最近積極的に持ち出している

今更だが何故手に入れたニューヨーク時代にもっと撮影しなかったのかと、今後悔している
あの頃は、ブログもやっていなかったので文章も残っていない
多少Facebookに書いたものは残っているが、長文でしっかりと書いた記憶はない

いい思い出もたくさんあるが、辛いこともあった
最後に住んでいたアパートは、建物が古く壁に穴が開き放題だったので、ネズミやゴキブリが毎日でた。
ネズミが這いまわる音が聞こえることが当たり前だったので、日本に帰ってきて寝る時あまりに静かすぎで驚いた

ジャズの録音には主に二種類ある。スタジオ録音とライブ録音。
一般的に作品を作る場合は、スタジオ録音。生の臨場感を極力そのまま保存するにはライブ録音が行われる。ライブ録音の場合は一発勝負になるので、録音後の編集等は不可能になる

インプロビゼーション的要素が大きなカギをしめるジャズにおいてはライブ録音の方を好む方も多いようであり、私もそうである

ライブ録音は云わばドキュメンタリー番組のようなものであり、各ミュージシャンのその時の経験が記録される。同じ曲を演奏したとしても、一年後では全く違うこともありうる音楽なのだ

だからこそ、その時々の記録が大切なわけだが、それはその時には理解できない
その時何を考えていたのか、何を大切にしていたのか。その時足りなかったもの、得意だったことなど。

その時は当たり前だったことも、一年後では全く状況は変わる

コロナの影響により、活動を大幅に制限された人間

実はその影響はさほどない人種もいることも最近思い知らされた。そういった人々にとってはワクチン接種などは早急な課題ではなく、そこにある多少のリスクを取るよりは現状を維持し、なだらかに状況が改善することを漠然と期待している。今回明らかな弱い者いじめといえる経済活動の大幅な制限を受ける業種もあれば、逆にステイホームに便乗し業績を伸ばした業界もあることを改めて思い知った

そういった業績を伸ばした業種の人間は、制限された業種の人間達はただ努力が足りないと言うだろう。
自分たちも多少の影響は受けたと。彼らの想像を遥かに超えた被害を我々は受けている

そんな状況でも記録し続けたいと思う
いずれ数年後、思い返した時にその時代何を考えていたのか
